'Gypsy' Entertains While Evoking Empathy

Harvard Crimson Magazine review of Harvard College Musical Theater's inaugural production of the musical "Gypsy" on the main stage of the Loeb Drama Center in April of 2017. Sumner performed as the lead role of Rose.

Harvard Crimson Magazine review of the October 2016 production of the play "The Trojan Women", written by Euripides and adapted by Jean Paul Sartre, in the Loeb Experimental theater of the Loeb Drama Center. Sumner performed as Queen Hecuba, the lead role of the play.

Sumner Perera was featured on the cover of the April 2014 issue of 201 Family Magazine as a student of the Theatre Academy at Bergen County Academies. 

Fashion Show at Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the UN

Sumner performed at Aslam Hussein's fashion show at the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in NYC. She performed Amy Winehouse's hit song "Back to Black". The fashion show took place on May 2, 2014.

"Recreation Department Honors Teaneck Olympian"

Sumner Perera sang the anthem at the event that honored Teaneck olympian Maya Lawrence. Lawrence is an Olympian Fencer and Bronze Medalist. The event took place on November 15 2012 at the Richard Rodda Community Center in Teaneck. The article was printed on November 8, 2012.

"Spirit of '45" Ceremony in Morris View Health Care Center

 
Sumner Perera as a volunteer of VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, performed a "Keep the Spirit of '45 Alive" concert at the Morris View Health Care Center in Morris County, NJ. This concert was one of several concerts she performs every summer in nursing and assisted living homes in NJ. The concert took place on August 12, 2012 and the article was printed on the same day.

"Teaneck Teen Idol Winner Performs with Chorus"

Sumner Perera, the winner of the 2010 Teaneck Teen Idol, performed at the Teaneck Community Chorus' music concert called "A New York State of Mind" on May 22, 2011. She sang Ella Fitzgerald's "Drop Me Off in Harlem"; her performance can be seen here.  The article was printed on May 19, 2011.

Sumner Perera wins the 2010 Teaneck Teen Idol at the age of 13. As the winner she received a cash prize, free registration to the 2010 National High School Teen Idol, free recording time at HOBO Audio Studios and the chance to open for a celebrity act at bergenPAC.  Sumner Perera is the Teaneck cast member in the Youth Conservatory production of "Oliver!" at the Garage Theatre Group in Teaneck, NJ. Sumner acted as the "Artful Dodger" in the production that ran from March 13-15 in 2009. The article was printed on March 11, 2009.

"Jeff Foxx and band plays for daddies and daughters" 

The Next Generation Band, composed of vocalist Sumner Perera and fellow middle school classmates, performed at the Real Dads Network and Proud Poppa Newsmagazine's first annual Valentine's Daddy-Daughter Dance. With guidance from morning show radio host, Jeff Fox (98.7 KISS FM) and guitarist Ivan Ramirez, the band played a vibrant set at the event. The article was printed on March 12, 2008.
